‘NCIS’ & ‘The Neighborhood’ Renewed By CBS For New Seasons

by Dave Elliott

US Network CBS has renewed two more shows, handing a 22nd Season to NCIS, and a 7th Season to comedy The Neighborhood.

‘NCIS’ mixes action with liberal doses of humour, focusing on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, these special agents investigate all crimes with Navy or Marine Corps ties. The series stars Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Katrina Law, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Rocky Carroll, and Gary Cole.

‘The Neighborhood’ stars Cedric the Entertainer in a comedy about what happens when the friendliest guy in the Midwest moves his family to a neighbourhood in Los Angeles where not everyone looks like him or appreciates his extreme neighbourliness. Dave Johnson is a good-natured, professional conflict negotiator. When his wife, Gemma, gets a job as a school principal in L.A., they move from Michigan with their young son, Grover, unfazed that their new dream home is located in a community quite different from their small town. Their opinionated next-door neighbour, Calvin Butler, is wary of the newcomers, certain that the Johnsons will disrupt the culture on the block. However, Calvin’s gracious wife, Tina, rolls out the welcome wagon; their chipper younger son, Marty, thinks the Johnsons could be good for the community; and their older son, Malcolm, finds Dave may finally be someone who understands him. Dave realizes that fitting into their new community is more complex than he expected, but if he can find a way to connect with Calvin, they have an excellent chance of making their new neighbourhood their home.

Both renewals were expected. ‘NCIS’ has been US TV’s #1 drama for the last five seasons, and was only toppled this year by CBS’s new young upstart ‘Tracker’. ‘The Neighborhood’ is the 3rd highest-rated comedy this season on US TV.

“The Neighborhood and NCIS are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” commented Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humour, and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”

Yesterday, CBS renewed ‘FBI‘, ‘FBI: Most Wanted‘ and ‘FBI: International‘ for new seasons, joining the previously renewed ‘Tracker‘ for Season 2, ‘NCIS: Sydney’ for Season 2, ‘Fire Country’ for Season 3, and ‘Ghosts’ for Season 4. As for the rest of the current ‘NCIS’ franchise, ‘NCIS: Sydney’ was renewed for Season 2 back in March by Paramount+, whilst the fate of ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ is still to be determined.

NCIS‘ Season 21 is currently airing on Disney+ in the UK, whilst ‘The Neighborhood‘ technically airs on E4… when they get around to scheduling it… If you want to keep track of these or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
