‘CSI: Vegas’ & ‘So Help Me Todd’ Cancelled By CBS

You don’t have to run faster than the bear to get away. You just have to run faster than the guy next to you...

CBS has brought down the axe on two more shows as it is announced CSI: Vegas has been cancelled after 3 Seasons, whilst So Help Me Todd ends its run at 2 Seasons.

Amidst the neon lights and long shadows, ‘CSI: Vegas’ follows the dark threats that continue to lurk in Sin City. Maxine Roby leads her brilliant team of Crime Scene Investigators as they use science to solve baffling cases. This combined force will deploy the latest forensic techniques to do what they do best – follow the evidence – in order to preserve and serve justice in Sin City.

‘So Help Me Todd’ starred Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden, and Skylar Astin, as razor-sharp, meticulous attorney Margaret Wright (Harden) and Todd (Astin), her talented but aimless son whom she hires as her law firm’s in-house investigator. As the black sheep of the Wright family, Todd is a laidback, quick-thinking, former private detective who fell on hard times after his flexible interpretation of the law got his license revoked. Margaret’s penchant for excellence and strict adherence to the law is at complete odds with Todd’s scrappy methods of finding his way through sticky situations.

This is, unfortunately, a classic case of the quote “You don’t have to run faster than the bear to get away. You just have to run faster than the guy next to you…” In the grand scheme of US TV, the ratings for both shows are actually pretty reasonable, with ‘CSI: Vegas’ coming in 21st place across all non-sports US broadcast TV viewing figures, and ‘So Help Me Todd’ in 22nd. However, CBS had a really strong line-up this year, with almost all of their other dramas and comedies coming in higher than these two. Had they been on a different network, they may have survived with those viewing figures… But they weren’t. They’re only competing for position against other CBS shows, not every show on every network, and that, unfortunately, led to the cancellation.

Both shows are produced by CBS Studios (‘CSI: Vegas’ in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television), and it seems unlikely either will get picked up by someone else. So far, CBS has renewed Fire Country’, ‘Ghosts’ (US version), ‘FBI’, FBI: Most Wanted’ & ‘FBI: International’, ‘NCIS’, ‘NCIS: Sydney’, ‘Tracker’, ‘The Neighborhood’, ‘SWAT’ and ‘The Good Wife/Fight’ spin-off ‘Elsbeth’. They have two shows left to decide – ‘The Equalizer’, which is in negotiations with lead Queen Latifah but is expected to return, and ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’, which also seems likely to land a renewal.

In the UK both ‘So Help Me Todd‘ and ‘CSI: Vegas‘ air on UKTV’s Alibi, but we haven’t yet had there (now) final seasons, so if you want to keep track of these or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
