‘She-Hulk’ and ‘Orphan Black’ star Tatiana Maslany has landed the lead role in ‘The Nightbeast’, a potential new series from Amazon MGM Studios, and it sounds wonderfully strange!
Created by Leah Rachel (‘Chambers’) and Travis Jackson (‘Hemlock Grove’, ‘Chambers’), ‘The Nightbeast’ follows a young mother who is unsatisfied with her seemingly perfect suburban life, so she begins an affair with the boogeyman in her son’s closet — a surprisingly sexy man called the Nightbeast! But this harmless affair she thought to be a figment of her imagination begins to have unexpected consequences, as her two worlds increasingly begin to collide in this seductive, darkly comedic tale.
Amazon MGM Studios has ordered a pilot for the drama, which sees Maslany star as the young mother and also exec produce, with Jamie Babbit (‘Only Murders in the Building’, ‘Russian Doll’) directing and exec producing. Peter Warren, Justin Levy, Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones exec produce for Station26 (A Range Company), with Kristen Campo for Campout.
Maslany is, of course, well known for her multi-role tour-de-force performance in the brilliant ‘Orphan Black’ (which you can watch right now in the UK on ITVX), and for playing the lead in Marvel’s wonderfully bonkers ‘She-Hulk’ series. She also has voiced various characters in Prime Video’s ‘Invincible’, and plays “Aja” in Netflix’s animated ‘Trollhunter’ franchise.
‘The Nightbeast’ is currently only a pilot, so might not go any further than that, but we’ll let you know if we hear more!
