‘The Acolyte’: Disney+ Announces Cast For Star Wars High Republic Series
Disney+ has announced the cast for their upcoming Star Wars series ‘The Acolyte‘, which will venture for the first time into the “High Republic” era on-screen.
‘The Acolyte’ is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.
For those of you unfamiliar with the “High Republic” era, it is an area which has been covered in comic books and novels, but not on screen before. The Galactic Republic was at its height, and the Jedi were also in a golden age, significatly active across the galaxy, solving problems, offering aid, and working on peaceful solutions to disputes.
Amandla Stenberg (‘The Hate U Give’) had previously been announced for the cast on this new series, but now we know who will be joining her. They include Emmy Award-winner Lee Jung-jae (‘Squid Game’), Manny Jacinto (‘The Good Place’, ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’), Dafne Keen (‘His Dark Materials’), Jodie Turner-Smith (‘The Last Ship’, ‘Without Remorse’), Rebecca Henderson (‘Inventing Anna’), Charlie Barnett (‘Russian Doll’), Dean-Charles Chapman (‘1917’), and Carrie-Anne Moss (‘The Matrix’).
Of course, this being Disney, we have no idea exactly who anyone is playing yet, and whether they will be good or bad guys. We will find out in due course…
The series comes from creator, showrunner, and executive producer Leslye Headland, co-created of Netflix’s brilliant ‘Russian Doll’. Production has now begun in the UK, and along with the casting they also released this behind-the-scenes photo… not that it gives much away either!

The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing. Headland will also direct the series pilot.
We don’t know exactly when ‘The Acolyte‘ will premiere (although late 2023, or maybe 2024 seems likely.) It will stream exclusively on Disney+ when it does.
