‘A Spy Among Friends’: ITVX Releases Trailer For Spy Thriller Starring Damian Lewis & Guy Pearce, Premiering December

by Dave Elliott

ITV has released the first trailer for the limited series A Spy Among Friends, starring Damian Lewis, Guy Pearce and Anna Maxwell Martin, which premieres this December on new free streaming service ITVX.

Based on the New York Times best-selling book written by Ben Macintyre, the six-episode series dramatises the true story of Nicholas Elliott (Lewis) and Kim Philby (Pearce), two British spies and lifelong friends. Philby was the most notorious British defector and Soviet double agent in history. This is a story of intimate duplicity, loyalty, trust and treachery. Philby’s deeply personal betrayal, uncovered at the height of the Cold War, resulted in the gutting of British and American Intelligence.

Alongside Pearce and Lewis, cast members include Anna Maxwell Martin (‘Motherland’, ‘Line of Duty’), Stephen Kunken (‘Billions’, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’) and Adrian Edmondson (‘Back to Life’, ‘The Pact’).

Alexander Cary (‘Homeland’, ‘Lie To Me’) is creator and executive producer alongside ITV Studios’ Patrick Spence and Nick Murphy.

‘A Spy Among Friends’ is produced in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television, ITV Studios and Veritas Entertainment Group. Lewis also serves as executive producer through his production company, Ginger Biscuit Entertainment.

If you’re unaware of ITVX, the new, free streaming platform launches 8th December 2022, and will replace ITV Hub as the online home of all ITV content. Viewers can expect a new and improved product experience through ITVX as well as more new and exclusive programmes to stream for free, than anywhere else. You can find out more here.

A Spy Among Friends‘ premieres Thursday, 8th December 2022 on ITVX in the UK.
