‘So Help Me Todd’ Season 2 Gets July UK Premiere Date On UKTV Alibi

Second and final season

by Dave Elliott

UKTV’s Alibi channel has set a July UK premiere date for the 2nd and final season of the comedy-drama So Help Me Todd.

‘So Help Me Todd’ season two reunites Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden (The Morning Show), and Skylar Astin (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) as razor-sharp, meticulous attorney Margaret Wright and Todd, her talented but scruffy son whom she hires as her law firm’s in-house investigator.

The first series charmed viewers with the incomparable chemistry between Harden and Astin and its unique blend of captivating legal drama, laugh-out-loud humour and intriguing family dysfunction. Margaret’s penchant for excellence and strict adherence to the law is at complete odds with Todd’s scrappy methods of finding his way through sticky situations: by the seat of his wrinkled pants.

Season two picks up shortly after the cliffhanger-filled finale as Margaret is finally made name partner at the law firm, and Todd earns back his P.I. licence.

Meanwhile, Todd’s sister, Allison (Madeline Wise), was being tempted by the promise of an “amazing” retreat that would help her figure out who she really was, and Margaret was caught off guard with the surprise return of her ex-husband, Harry (Mark Moses) who announced, “Iceland was horrible!”

As we return for episode one, Margaret and Todd tackle a case involving a murder on live local morning news and Todd decides to open his own PI business.

Sadly, CBS decided not to renew ‘So Help Me Todd’ for another season back in April. Whilst the show was ranked in a respectable 22nd place across all non-sports US broadcast TV networks, it was toward the bottom of CBS’s own drama list, as the network had a really strong line-up last season. It was a classic case of the quote “You don’t have to run faster than the bear to get away. You just have to run faster than the guy next to you…” Had they been on a different network, they may have survived with those viewing figures… But they weren’t. They’re only competing for position against other CBS shows, not every show on every network, and that, unfortunately, led to the cancellation.

The dramedy is created by Scott Prendergast, who serves as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Elizabeth Klaviter.

So Help Me Todd‘ Season 2 premieres Thursday, 11th July 2024 at 9pm on UKTV’s Alibi.
